Begin your adventure today!
New School Aikido began in 1986, partly to spread Aikido's message of non-violence and partly as a way to continue to integrate Aikido into the flow of modern life. To date over three thousand people have successfully completed New School Aikido's basic training. Sensei John Smartt has revolutionized Aikido training methods and conceptual patterning both technically and metaphorically. These changes bring each participant directly to Aikido's central theme of Universal Unity. John credits his philosophical reevaluation of Aikido technique and teachings with helping him to close key holes in popular Aikido. John's approach reveals just how overwhelmingly accurate Osensei's teachings are to a realization of Aikido's core teaching—Love.
“First revealed in the 1920's, Aikido remains the only expression of love through martial arts.
Aikido goes beyond attack and defense—showing us ways of being
and doing that add insight and depth to all our paths.” --John Smartt
I want to thank New School Aikido for their efforts to help my son. My son used to be very shy, and I had a hard time pushing him out of his shell. A few months after he started Aikido classes, his personality changed positively; He is very confident now and the most important thing is that he is doing better in school. I definitely recommend New School Aikido to everybody." - Sarah from Stockton
By learning Aikido you will train yourself to resolve situations peacefully. Only Aikido unifies how you play and how you stand up for yourself. This works in two ways. On the safety side, the technique you learn will not hurt anyone. But it will excellently restore safety. Even when you are surprised, afraid or angry you can "turn your full energy loose" and not hurt a single person. It’s a great feeling to know that your full expression of energy and strength will move in positive and life giving ways. You’ll have developed an ability to discern mood and intention. You’ll safely handle your over aggressive suitor or your slightly inebriated relative. They will appreciate your firmness and your compassion.
Outcome: Efficiency + New Energy = Time saved for you!
